CCA gives clearance for take-over of Novi list, Glas Istre novine and RTD

Considering the fact that the undertaking JOJ Media House from Bratislava has pursued no activities in the territory of Croatia this merger will not change the structure of the relevant markets concerned.

The Croatian Competition Agency (CCA) approved the acquisition of control over the undertakings– Novi list from Rijeka, Glas Istre novine from Pula and RTD from Zadar by the undertaking JOJ Media House from Bratislava.

The concentration will produce effects in the circulation market and the advertising market in daily papers.

Considering the fact that the undertaking JOJ Media House from Bratislava has pursued no activities in the territory of Croatia this merger will not change the structure of the relevant markets concerned.

Namely, the joint market share of Novi list, Glas Istre novine and RTD in the circulation market in 2014 was between 10 and 15 per cent, whereas in the advertising market the market share amounted to some 15 to 20 per cent.

According to the data from the annual print media market study that has been regularly carried out by the CCA the highest market shares in these markets are held by Styria Grupa newspapers 24sata and Večernji list. These papers have some 55 to 60 per cent market share in the circulation market and some 40 to 45 per cent market share in the advertising market. They are followed by EPH – Jutarnji list and Slobodna Dalmacija holding some 25 to 30 per cent market share in the circulation market and some 30 to 35 per cent market share in the advertising market.

No replies have been sent by interested parties to the CCA public invitation regarding to this merger.

Taking into account that this transaction will produce no anticompetitive effects in the daily newspapers market, the CCA approved the merger in question.
