The webinar on “Settlements in competition law”

CROATIAN COMPETITION AGENCY (AZTN) with the support of the CROATIAN COMPETITION LAW AND POLICY ASSOCIATION (HDPPTN)  is pleased to announce the webinar on “SETTLEMENTS IN COMPETITION LAW” on 2 December 2021 from 3 p.m.-4.30 p.m. CET.

In competition law, settlements are mostly used in the proceedings establishing prohibited cartel agreements. This instrument provides for the possibility that the undertakings against which the competition authority is already conducting the proceedings admit their responsibility for the infringement and give up their right to submit the claim against the final decision of the competition authority before the court. In return, the other party to the settlement – competition authority, reduces the fine usually by 10 % (or more) of the total amount of the fine that would otherwise be imposed on the party concerned without the settlement submission. The use of settlement allows for a faster conclusion of proceedings and contributes to the procedural economy.

Croatia only introduced settlements by the recent amendments to the Competition Act from April 2021.

The purpose of this webinar is to hear about the practical experiences of various EU Member States experts in applying settlement instruments, discussing its advantages or potential disadvantages.
