CCA clears Snipes/Katapult merger

The Croatian Competition Agency cleared in phase I the concentration between the undertakings in the form of the acquisition of a direct controlling interest on the permanent basis over part of the undertaking Katapult d.o.o. from Zagreb, concretely, its retail shops Shooster, approved and Noss in the Republic of Croatia and their online shops, including the rights and obligations regarding their operations, employees, lease and other property, trademarks, web domains etc, by the undertaking Snipes SE, Germany.

The concentration will predominantly produce effects in the retail footwear and accessories market in the Republic of Croatia.

Snipes SE is a chain store within Deichmann group engaged in sales of modern streetwear and sneakers and accessories. With its sales concept Snipes SE is present in 10 countries, such as Germany and the USA, and it had not been present in the Croatian market before the implementation of the concentration concerned.

It can be expected that the entry of Snipes SE into the Croatian market will widen the choice in the sports footwear and sneakers market and due to the competitive constraints regarding the entry of a new player that happens to be a global retail shop introducing innovation in this market, the assessment indicated that the concentration concerned is unlikely to produce any negative effects on competition, on the contrary, it may strengthen competition by the entry of a new rival in the market concerned.
