The aim of the protection of market competition is primarily to create benefits for consumers and equal conditions for all entrepreneurs on the market, who, acting in accordance with the existing rules and competing on the market with the quality, price and innovation of their products and services, contribute to the overall development of the economy.
ICN 24th annual conference in Edinburgh
From 6 – 9 May 2025 the 24th Annual Conference of the International Competition Network (ICN) was held in Edinburgh, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. As part of the conference, the ICN Technologist Forum was also organized.
The conference brought together numerous representatives of national competition authorities, international experts, and stakeholders from around the world. Through plenary discussions and thematic workshops, participants exchanged experience and discussed key challenges and trends in the area of competition policy. Major topics included: the role of competition in fostering innovation and economic growth, challenges of digital markets, public procurement, combating anticompetitive agreements, and many other current issues central to the work of competition agencies.
The Croatian Competition Agency was represented by Sandi Valentinc, head of the Department for International and European Cooperation, and Mislav Kršulović, head of the Digital Affairs Department. They actively participated in the ICN Technologist Forum and in the workshop “Younger Agencies: Building a new competition agenda from the perspective of young and small agencies,” where they shared experience from the Croatian practice.
Apart from strengthening of international cooperation, the participation in the ICN conference provided the Croatian representatives with insights into the latest global trends and approaches in the implementation of competition policy. Such gatherings contribute to the development of professional capacities and the more effective implementation of competition policies, with the goal of creating a more competitive market environment ensuring greater benefits for the consumers.
