In loving memory of Denis Matić (1965-2025)

With deep sorrow and heartfelt sadness, we bid farewell to our dear colleague and friend, a distinguished legal expert and a man of great spirit, member of the Competition Council, Mr. Denis Matić, who passed away on 7 June 2025.

Denis Matić was appointed as a member of the Competition Council by the Croatian Parliament for three consecutive terms, beginning in 2013.

His expertise in competition law, international law, and commercial law was outstanding. It was his knowledge, experience, and ability to see the bigger picture that gave every case a different perspective. His legal arguments were thorough, precise, and well-reasoned, and his decisions practical and insightful.

He had a deep understanding of politics and economic relations, and his professional reach extended far and wide. He was respected in the business community and among his peers, always ready to lend a hand, listen, and offer advice. Articulate, sharp-witted, and steadfast in his beliefs, Denis was deeply committed to his work.

Beyond his professional achievements, Denis was a warm soul with a wonderful sense of humour. He was someone who knew how to celebrate life – to laugh, to lift others’ spirits, and to remind us not to forget the joy in everyday moments. Above all, he loved his family deeply, always speaking of his wife, daughter, and son with pride and tenderness.

In everything he did, Denis showed courage. He never shied away from a challenge. And so he left us – with the same spirit of optimism, encouraging us to persevere.

We will forever remember him as a great man. And a true friend.
