Parliamentary Committee on the Economy visits the CCA

The chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on the Economy, Mr Ivica Mesić, and the deputy chairman, Mr Boris Piližota, paid a working visit to the Croatian Competition Agency (CCA).

The visit aimed to provide a closer insight into the CCA’s work, activities and the challenges it faces in carrying out its statutory duties. The CCA is accountable to the Croatian Parliament and reports annually to both the Parliament and the Committee on the Economy, which serves as its oversight body.

The meeting was attended by the president of the CCA Council, Mirta Kapural, PhD, the members of the Council and the Chief Economist. Ms Kapural presented the CCA’s remit, organisational structure and operations, highlighting the key challenges, particularly limited human and financial resources amid an increasing number and complexity of the cases.

Discussions also covered the CCA’s sector inquiries, which help to analyse market structures and identify potential competition concerns, as well as its efforts to promote competition advocacy, to strengthen the competition culture and protect consumers.

The importance of recruitment and professional training for staff was emphasised, given the specialised nature of the CCA’s work.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr Mesić and Mr Piližota thanked the CCA for its welcome and expressed satisfaction with its work and achievements. They commended the professionalism and dedication of the CCA staff and underlined the importance of further strengthening the CCA’s institutional independence and capacity, in support of a transparent and competitive Croatian economy.
